My baby is 5 months!

Isn't she a doll? She's developing quite a funny little personality. She is starting to giggle and laugh. She LOVES to play in her exersaucer and on her play mat. She sits well in her Bumbo seat. She rolls over with ease and moves around quite a bit. I noticed the other day that her feet finally touched completely (flat foot) in the exersaucer. Nancy Carolyn is a joy and I fall more in love with her each and every day.

No stats since we didn't go to the doctor this month. I'm guessing she's around 13 lbs. She's moved into 6 month clothing (or 3-6 months clothes). Just getting so big. We'll be starting solids soon!

lots on my mind

I have a lot on my mind today, so I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll tell you what we've been doing. Working full time and being a mommy keeps on very busy. I'm definitely enjoying my summer break, thus far. Once school was out, Chris's parents were here for the weekend. His dad went on a mission trip to Honduras, so they came up so we could take him to the airport...well, that and I know they wanted to see Nancy Carolyn.

On Memorial Day, we went to the Renaissance Festival. It was Chris's first time there. We had a good time. Later that week, we headed to the beach. Chris has family in Panama City Beach, so we stayed with them. We were only there for a couple of days. We visited the pool and went to the beach briefly. It's hard with a 4 1/2 month old, since they really can't be in the sun too much. It was a nice visit, however brief.

Last week was spent trying to get NC back on her schedule. The week before was a nightmare for her schedule. It did not help last week that she had a cold. :( So naps were taken in the swing and I was a little more lenient than I should have been.

This week, we have NOTHING! YAY! Yesterday, NC took 3 naps and we just played all day. She's getting to be so much fun (see the post to come later today... because she's 5 months today!!!)

now, thoughts on my mind... first, I need some good reading material for the summer. I LOVE to read and have found myself lately reading the same things over and over (Harry Potter... I reread him EVERY summer... already done). I just reread Twilight. Now... need something else. Here's the thing... I don't want anything sad, disturbing or scary. I've had enough sadness in my life that I don't need to read about it. (so no Jodi Piccoult or Nicholas Sparks). any suggestions?

I'm trying to figure out working out with a baby ... in the summer... NC woke up early this morning so I was able to go for a walk before Chris left and I didn't have to take her with me. So that was nice.

and... I've set a goal... well, two goals. One to lose 40 lbs (i'll keep you updated). I've lost all the "baby" weight.. now to lose all that was gained (plus a little more) in the "honeymoon" phase, that in my case lasted 3 years. :) Goal two... I'm GOING to do a half marathon in November (and hopefully again in February). I'd really like to get to the point of liking to run and maybe by February ... run most of that one. I want to do the Disney Princess half in Feb (doesn't it sound like fun?) I'm going to join Team In Training to do the one in November. I figure that's the only way I'll get off my lazy bum and be motivated enough to train... and I know they will train me properly.

So... that's what's been going on and what's on my mind this morning as I drink my coffee and wait for NC to wake up from nap 1. Be on the lookout for her 5 month post later today or tomorrow!

Four Months

So, I'm a little behind! We've been busy though. We spent Nancy Carolyn's four month birthday at St. Simons. We were cheering Chris on through the Turtle Crawl Triathlon. Nancy Carolyn is getting so big. Her stats were 12 lb 7 oz, 23 7/8" and I can't remember what her head measured, but she was all in the 25-50%. The doctor was pleased with her growth and said she was perfect (of course WE already knew that!). Her personality is starting to show and she is quite the funny girl. She's happy most all of the time and I just love every second with her. Nancy Carolyn can hold her head up really well and sits nicely in the Bumbo seat. She can also sit with the help of the boppy. Her hobbies include rolling over (both ways), reaching for and putting toys in her mouth (as well as her fists). She also enjoys "standing and dancing." Nancy Carolyn's most favorite thing is bathtime. She enjoys splashing Mommy and playing with her rubber duckie. Did I mention how much I love this girl? :)

A New Endeavor

This weekend, I took a step towards a new endeavor. I had been thinking and praying a lot about it and thought it sounded like a lot of fun. Then about a week ago, I was reading about it and got totally pumped about it. What is it I'm talking about?

I am now a consultant for Thirty One. YAY!!! If you're not familiar with the company, they sell really cute bags and various other things. The thing that REALLY sold me on the company is the fact that it is a Christian based company that promotes and encourages women. In fact, Thirty One comes from Proverbs 31 which is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It describes the virtuous woman.

I am SO excited about this step I have taken. I'm not looking to become one of those women that makes a career out of selling Thirty One. I'm just going to enjoy the fun products and hopefully make a little extra pocket change. Feel free to browse my website listed below. Happy Mother's Day!

One year ago today, I woke up very early to take a pregnancy test. I could hardly wait the few minutes to see the word PREGNANT appear. We found out about Sprout one year ago today. We were so excited to meet her. We were already in love with her. Now a year later, we have the most beautiful almost four month old in the world. She lights up the room with her smile and makes me chuckle with her voice. Nancy Carolyn is our pride and joy! One year ago today, I loved the baby I was carrying but had NO IDEA of the love I would have for her now.

It's been a wonderful Mother's day despite Chris and Nancy Carolyn feeling rather poorly. They treated me to tulips and chocolate covered strawberries. Becoming a mother was the best thing I ever did! I love you Nancy Carolyn and I Love you Chris for being my partner in life!

I made it!

I survived my first week back at work. It wasn't fun and I now admire all of my friends who have kids and work full time. Not that I didn't admire them before or that I don't admire SAHMs but wow... There's really no time for anything during the week. I struggled to get dinner cooked every night (in fact, we went out Thursday and had take out on Friday). Not to mention the fact that I was exhausted from getting up before the rooster.

I am VERY lucky in that my very good friend, Lonebutterfly, is keeping Nancy Carolyn while I go to school each day. She texted me during the day and let me know how my love was doing and on occasion, I got a picture :) There are 23 days of school left (25 counting post planning)... I CAN DO IT!!!

Oh and say some prayers for me, I'm hoping that it will work out for me to work part time next year.

Nancy Carolyn is 3 months today. She's getting so big. I don't have official stats since we don't have a doctor's appointment this month, BUT I'm assuming she weighs about 12 lbs and well, no idea how long she is. She's cooing and talking to us a lot more. I can't remember if I've said but she's also found her thumb. She sucks on it (or her fingers or her hand or her fingers and her thumb) to help her fall asleep. She also sleeps on her side and we never know how we'll find her in her crib. She definitely moves a lot. She can hold her head up pretty good and sits in the Bumbo seat some. She loves to sit up and look around. I love going in her room in the morning and getting a big gummy smile. She's a happy baby (for the most part...) and we just love her more and more each day!

So sorry to be MIA lately. We had a busy Easter weekend (pictures to come), slightly busy week last week, ending with loss of internet and a busy weekend this past weekend. Internet is back up and running but I need to go get a new router so we can once again enjoy our wifi.

Easter weekend was a wonderful time. My cousin's baby turned one and she hosted a birthday party/egg hunt for Sam's birthday. It was wonderful to see my family and hang out a bit. AND of course, show off Princess Nancy Carolyn. Easter Sunday was a lot of fun too. We took Nancy Carolyn to church. We decided to go to church with grandaddy (my dad) and Nana (Sue) because they were having an Easter musical. After church, we headed to lunch and by the time we got home, Nancy Carolyn was EXHAUSTED. She took like a 4 hour nap! She woke up and was excited to discover her BFF, GO was here visiting.

Last week, we took a trip to visit and meet Aunt Jennifer and cousin Ellis. The girls were so cute (and oblivious to each other).

My new KodakZi8 camera arrived last week and all I can say is beware because the videos will be posting soon :)

Grandma and Pop (Chris's parents) came to visit us this past weekend. Pop and Chris installed ceiling fans in 3 rooms. AND Nancy Carolyn slept through her "second" wedding. (second because she was in the womb at her Uncle Zach's wedding back in August)

Going Ons...

We've been fairly busy the last week around the Hartley House. I celebrated my 34th birthday last Wednesday, which was my first birthday as a momma! I loved every minute of it. I woke up to a lovely message written on the mirror from Chris (and Nancy Carolyn). I spent the day mainly hanging out with the new love of my life. Thursday night was spent celebrating with the rest of the family (all except for my "evil step sister" and her hubby, as they are not permitted to travel because Ellis was due on Saturday, March 20). I am anxiously awaiting my gift from Chris. He ordered me the Kodak Zi8 camera (Kodak's version of the flip). My brother, Zach, helped me do research on the two and I opted for the Kodak. It's due to arrive on March 31 and I cannot wait to capture moments with my sweet girl!

My dad and Sue gave me two new Wii games. EA Active and Wii Sports Resort- both are a lot of fun and I'm enjoying the Active game especially. It's giving me a good workout, that's for sure!

On Monday, I acquired the new title of Aunt Meredith... My "evil" step sister gave birth to Ellis Ruth at 1 something Monday morning. I'm looking forward to meeting her and putting the cousins together tomorrow.

On Tuesday, I spent my first evening out. It wasn't the first time leaving NC, but it was my first being away during a "meal" and bedtime. I survived... had a TON of fun at Kristin's. Kristin hosted a coupon workshop, where I learned a ton and I am SO excited to jump on the couponing bandwagon this weekend! Also, I'm sure most of you saw my status on facebook... I'm hoping to host a workshop of my own. Let me know if you're interested. Now when I say host one, I won't be teaching... Amy, of Saavy Savers (who also works for Southern Savers) will be doing the teaching.

Nancy Carolyn is growing bigger each day and doing so many things. I love just sitting and watching her. She's "discovered" her hands and feet. She will sit and kick and just watch her feet. It makes me giggle. She's also finding her voice and loves to "talk" to me. Which I just ADORE! :)

Nancy Carolyn turned 2 months on Monday, March 15. We just got home from the doctor (and the dreaded shots). She did really well. She's growing so big and her little personality is developing. She smiles a lot and talks to me a lot. She is very alert and loves looking around. She's gotten really strong at holding her head up. We have put her in her Bumbo seat a few times (for a short time because she does start slumping forwards).

Here are her stats:

Weight- 11 lb 0.5 oz
Length- 22 1/2"
Head- 15 1/4"
All in the 50%tile.

We are loving our time with our precious, sweet girl. She is currently 7 weeks and a few days old and getting so big. She is definitely interacting a lot more with us, including the occasional smile, which I LOVE! Hopefully one day I'll catch it on camera. We went to Stone Mountain yesterday and walked around a bit. We tossed around the idea of riding the train and the sky lift, but ended up walking around crossroads and watching the people sled down the lawn. We also went out to dinner on our own last night. Left her for about an hour with Grandaddy and Nana (my dad and Sue). They, of course, were in heaven. The picture is from a few weeks ago. I haven't downloaded new pics yet.

We have had a lot of firsts lately. The picture is her first time on the playmat. She seems to love it more and more each time I put her on it. We had our first night out to a restaurant...first trip to pop's and grandma's house... So many things I have forgotten them all.

I LOVE being home with her. She is so much fun even though she still doesn't "do" a whole lot. She is starting to smile at me and I love her little noises and cooings that she makes. Ah, be still my heart!!!

Nancy Carolyn is a total snuggle bunny. I LOVE it. This is her favorite position to sleep in when we're holding her. So sweet! I am totally in love with her, can you tell? :) She recently has started getting a little confused about day and night. Nights aren't horrible but there are a few times she would rather be wide awake than sleep. She needs help falling asleep still too... my favorite is to hold her like this and she fights for a little while to hold her head up but then lays her head on my shoulder and snuggles closer. AHHHHH... so sweet!

We are doing quite well. I LOVE being home with her. I love it so much that I've been racking my brain trying to figure out a way for me to work from home. Not easy to do when you're a teacher. Any ideas out there?

Today is our first day being home alone. Last week, I was blessed to have Chris's mom here for the first half of the week and Sue come over the end of the week to help out while Chris went to work. So, that brings us to today being our first day home alone. I must say, it hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. :)

I'm totally LOVING mummyhood and my sweet girl. She's so fun to just snuggle with, especially on these cold, winter days. I'm just totally in awe of her. I love to watch her sleep, make funny faces, eat, etc...

is finally here!!! Most of you know that Nancy Carolyn was born last Friday, January 15 at 4:50 pm. She weighed 7 lbs 6 oz and was 19" long. We are so in love with her!!!

Snowy Day

Normally I would go outside and take some pictures, but today I haven't set foot outside. Nor do I plan on setting foot outside. First of all, not a fan of snow. I hate the cold (it has to be cold for Christmas and then I would love for it to just jump to spring). Don't get me wrong, it's pretty... just not a fan. And believe it or not, not a fan when school is canceled. Mainly because I ABSOLUTELY HATE make up days. It is nice to get a surprise morning to sleep in (though I know those days are very numbered)... but still.

Alas, I have no picture to post of our snowy yard. I have spent the day on the couch watching tv and wrapped in a blanket.

Question for you bloggers... does anyone else have problems with it loading sometimes? Some blogger sites tend to throw me off line completely (including my own at times). Anyone else have problems?

No Resolutions this year

I'm boycotting resolutions and goals. I figure the life change that Chris and I are about to embark on, is enough for 2010. :) I mean, don't get me wrong... I hope that after the baby I will continue to eat healthy (most of you know I have the dreaded gestational diabetes and am having to be super careful about what I eat). I guess I was wrong in that I do have a goal. Before I got pregnant, I was planning on walk/running a half marathon. The Disney Princess Half Marathon to be exact. Since the race is at the beginning of the year, I am obviously not going to be doing it THIS year, but I do have a goal to complete it next year in 2011 with my very good friend, Lonebutterfly. I am hoping to be in shape enough to possibly do one in Atlanta this upcoming fall. I also would like to improve my relationship with my God, which means spend more time with Him on a daily basis.

I do have a personal goal that I will share with you (if you email me). I just feel it's too personal to post on my blog that anyone can see.

I'm assuming this is my last post of this year. I hope everyone has had a good holiday. It sounds like it from reading everyone's blog. We, too, have had a good holiday. Last week, I ran around a bunch getting ready for Christmas. I even felt up to baking. I baked two different kinds of cookies (Chewbilee cookies and Chocolate Toffee Crunch). I also attempted my grandmother's divinity. If you've never heard of divinity, it's basically sugar and nuts. It's supposed to be fluffy KINDA like a marshmallow but not as squishy. It's a little harder than that but when you bite into it, it kind of dissolves in your mouth. ANYWAY.... now I've never made candy before but I thought I would give it a try. So, on Christmas Eve (big mistake) I whipped up a batch. Unfortunately it's a temperamental candy that humidity greatly affects. If you were here, you know it rained in the late afternoon and all night... which means, that my divinity did not set at all. In fact, it looked like white pecan brittle. It tasted REALLY yummy, like my grandmother's. BUT, I had to throw it away because it wouldn't set and we couldn't even peel it off the wax paper. Oh well, I'll try again next year. This time on a day where NO RAIN is in the forecast.

This was the first Christmas we were at home. It was quite nice being at home and to begin to think about family traditions that WE want to have with our family. Christmas Eve, we were invited over to my brother and sister in law's for dinner. We crammed into their one bedroom condo and had a delish meal with them, my dad and stepmom, grandmother, her parents, her brothers, her sister in law, two nephews and her grandfather and his wife. (which is why I used the word CRAMMED). My dad, step mom and grandmother joined me and Chris in attending the 11:00 pm service at the church we've been going to. It was nice and I know it will be the last late service we're able to go to on Christmas Eve for quite a while.

Christmas morning it was SO NICE to wake up in our own bed and be lazy. I made breakfast for us and we opened presents just the two of us. We had a lazy morning and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. I even surprised Chris and set the table in my mom's Christmas china. We even drank out of our crystal tea glasses. It was quite fun! We headed over to see Lonebutterfly, her hubby and caterpillars for a short visit before going to my dad's. We had a great time with my family, eating, laughing and opening gifts.

This week has been much more relaxed for me. Chris has been working all week (of course) and I have mainly just hung around the house and rested. Tonight, Chris's parents are coming and we'll celebrate Christmas with them and Chris's brother tomorrow. This is, of course, assuming that Sprout isn't affected by the blue moon tonight.

I made it! It's been a LOOONG week but it's finally over. The last week before a holiday is always stressful, tiring and well... long. I'm so excited to have 2 weeks off to rest and prepare for Sprout (and possibly Sprout will come).

We have no special plans for the break (well, aside from celebrating Christmas). We are not going anywhere. We are strictly on "Sprout Watch." I am done (for the first time ever in my life) with my Christmas shopping. All that's left is wrapping, Christmas cards (I've been lazy on those... sorry friends), and cleaning the house. Sprout's room is ready for Sprout (pics to follow in the next post)... so now we just wait!

Today would have been my mom's 63rd birthday. I think of her everyday and miss her everyday. She would be ECSTATIC to meet Sprout (in fact, I know she's up in heaven just happy as can be about Sprout). I am writing this post, not to make you sad but to celebrate the wonderful life she lived. Most of you know, we lost her to cancer 6 years ago. I am very blessed to have a wonderful and caring step mother who is a great support. I am also blessed by my mom's friends who love me and think of me. One of my mom's friends saved baby blankets and sweaters that my mom crocheted for her grandchildren and passed them on to me recently. What a blessing!

Today I have my last shower for Sprout and I am super excited about it. It's being hosted by 3 of my mom's favorite friends from the church I grew up in (and my dad still attends). I think it's a fantastic way to celebrate my mom today.

I just have to say it... I LOVE Christmas!!! You might remember a few weeks ago when I posted that I had begun listening to Christmas tunes. Well, I am loving the fact that I can now "officially" listen and they're on everywhere! I LOVE IT!

Our house is decorated (pics will come at some point). MOST of my Christmas shopping is done, still have a few people left (mainly Chris). I AM READY! I keep thinking how next Christmas will be SO different having an almost year old around. THAT makes me excited too! I have such wonderful memories of the holidays growing up that I can't wait to start new family traditions and make memories with our new family!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

As the week has gone on, I have begun to think about all I am thankful for...

1. an amazing God who loves us, sent His son for us and continually blesses us.
2. the best husband in the world
3. a wonderful family
4. terrific friends

the list could really go on...This morning, as I was laying in bed, I pondered on last year's Thanksgiving and how different it was. Last year, we were up at the crack of dawn because Chris was running the Thanksgiving half marathon. Last year, a few weeks prior, we had learned that I had a blighted ovum and would be experiencing a miscarriage (which pretty much started last Thanksgiving day).

This year, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our precious Sprout. I am 33 weeks pregnant today. Even in the recent loss of a wonderful granddaddy, we are still amazed at the blessings God has bestowed upon us.

I pray that He continues to bless you and your families, as well!

A lot has been going on...

Sorry I've been a blogger MIA. We've had a lot going on in the last week. It started the week of the 13th... I had a stomach bug which put me out of commission.. but I also had TWO baby showers that weekend. I was much better by the one on Sunday but Saturday was rough for me.

Last week, we began the perinatal classes that I signed us up for and I took the (maternity) leave class that the county makes us take. Friday was not the best day. Chris's granddaddy passed away. He was a great man and was loved by many. He was diagnosed this summer with lung cancer but thankfully was not sick at all until last week. Last week he just went downhill and fast. Chris and I were planning on coming to his parents to spend Thanksgiving with them since we wont' be able to come at Christmas. So, we ended up just coming a little early (on Saturday) and will be here until Friday.

I don't normally like to post about my kids at school... but noticed something today with my second graders. I have four boys in my second grade group (yes only four and all boys... long story). They were playing games today and I was listening to them as they played. The trash talk was hilarious! Yes, boys begin trash talking early... definitely in the second grade, not sure how much earlier. Just thought it might make ya'll smile on this beautiful Friday when I'm sure we'd all rather be home!

Some thoughts on a Sunday morning

Chris is out this morning serving at a water stop for a women's half marathon. This morning, I just wasn't up for going to church alone. So, I logged on to Newspring Church's website. Newspring is in Anderson, SC. It is the church that my stepsister and her husband both attend and work. If you ever have a chance, check out Perry's messages.

Anyway, as Sprout's birth approaches, I realize how much I miss having a church home. Many of you know, Chris and I were not happy in our old church home and have been attending a church a little closer to home. We have not gotten involved, other than going MOST Sunday mornings. I enjoy the services of this particular church, enjoy the messages by the pastor, and enjoy the music. I miss being involved in a Sunday School class, or small group though. I miss knowing people where we worship and being missed when we are not there. It's so hard to take that first step to becoming more involved when you haven't been involved in so long. It's so hard to know if this church is the place God wants us.

Yesterday, I attended a Beth Hadid service for GO (Lonebutterfly's youngest caterpillar). She is being dedicated this morning in their church. It was a very special time and I am so lucky that I was included in the family's special day. It just made me realize even more how important a church home is, as we begin this important journey of adding to our family.

It's my planning time right now and I just HAD TO DO IT... I just had to!!! I have an iPOD player on my desk and we listen to a lot of music while we work (kids and all). It was too quiet in here (I have to have noise of some sort). Anyway, since I have the room to myself, I just flipped through some of my playlists to look for some "Meredith" music (I'm very careful about what I play while students are in the room). I came across my Holiday playlist and YES, I AM LISTENING TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC AND AM TOTALLY LOVING IT!!! Playing a little off of "Little" Sarah's post today... What is your favorite holiday? And what is your favorite holiday song/hymn?

I guess which holiday my favorite is fairly obvious!!! :) I will share my favorite songs/hymns later this week ....

Just a little update of what's been going on around the Hartley House (isn't that the name of the show that Steve's mom was on in 90210?) We have had a busy October. We finished off September with Chris's final triathlon of the season, and started the month of October with a half marathon (him, not me). I didn't go with him for this one, so no pics (I think I have plenty of him running). The following weekend, we had a pretty successful Yard Sale...despite the "threat" of rain, the loss to the Vols and the fact that we still have a bunch of stuff left. We traveled to the Redneck Rivera (yup, PC Beach) for his cousin's wedding AND last weekend, we finally started on Sprout's room. We still need a few things (like the glider, a rug, ceiling fan, lamp and I'm thinking a bookcase). We are getting our glider this month (I think I decided which one I want, we just have to go get it). Oh and the bedding :)

Earlier this month, I was diagnosed with the dreaded gestational diabetes. So the past few weeks I've been learning what I can eat successfully without making my blood sugar too high. This also means no treats for me yesterday.

For Halloween, we window shopped for a glider, watched the game of which we will not speak, and had a date night with Lonebutterfly and her hubby (oh and the VERY cute caterpillar GO). We went to dinner (Outback...yum) and then came back to our place and played Trivial Pursuit. I LOVE playing board games but never get to play (Chris says it's no fun to play with just two people... party pooper). So, I was SUPER excited to be able to enjoy a board game.

Thankful Thursday

As the holiday season approaches (yes, holiday season begins with Halloween... didn't you know?), I thought it might be nice to do a Thankful Thursday (keeping up with the alliteration I started yesterday). Plus, I have felt very negative lately (and I know friends like Lonebutterfly and Rebecca are tired of hearing me complain). What better way to feel positive again than to look at ALL the things in which you are thankful.

There are so many ways and things in which I am thankful...
~I am thankful for a wonderful man, who loves me no matter what (even though I'm super fat and continuing to get even bigger!).
~I am thankful for my family... thankful that I was blessed with 27 years with the best mother in the world, thankful that my dad is still my daddy and that I will always be his little girl, thankful that my daddy found an incredible lady who loves him, loves us and is still sensitive about my mom, thankful for a fun "little" brother who understands and gets my sense of humor, thankful that he found a great gal, thankful that I NOW have a sister, who rocks and is a great sister in Christ and for her hubby... who just makes me laugh and is the smartest computer guy I know...
~I am thankful for Sprout, even though I don't officially know him/her yet... I am so thankful for the opportunity that God has provided Chris and me to be parents.
~I am thankful for some of the best girlfriends a girl could ask for :)

As I was driving to work this morning I began to wonder why about a few things and thought, hey this would be something to blog about... so I'm blogging a Why? Wednesday... Hee hee, like the alliteration?

Okay, WHY??? Do people insist on driving in the left lane and won't get out of the way when someone comes up behind them going faster?
WHY??? (and I'm sure it's the same people) drive the same speed as the car in the lane next to them so that you can never get around them... AND you always end up behind these people when you are running late and in a hurry?
WHY??? (or is it just me) do you catch every red light when running late?
WHY??? do people not use their brains and common sense at times?
WHY??? is it so hard to get out of bed when it's raining outside? :)

I think those are all my WHY questions for the day. I hope everyone is doing well. Not a whole lot going on with me. I'm almost 26 weeks and Sprout is just kicking along. I'm looking forward to the baby showers and all the classes (childbirth, etc...) starting. I can't believe it is almost time for all of those things. I am very glad that THIS is the year that I am pregnant and will be out on maternity leave. I am currently having a crisis of ... not faith, but lacking the love of my job. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what I am teaching and LOVE my kids. It's all the other junk that comes along with the territory of being a teacher in a public school. Please say some prayers for me as I venture to look for a job in the private sector or maybe change careers all together.

Fuzzy slippers

Today, I got out my slippers... They are kinda fuzzy. They are red, slip on, terry cloth feeling UGA slippers and I LOVE them. I know it's not winter yet, it's not even that cold. In fact, I'm loving the chilly, fall weather we are having. During this time of year, we open our windows and it's just so pleasant in the house. However, our hardwood floors get very COLD to my toesies... SO, I pulled the slippers out today.

I have some new favorite shows.... which I think I've already professed NCIS and Glee as being some of the new favorites. Don't get me wrong, I still love my old favorites too... HOUSE, Bones, Greys, Private Practice... BUT I have another new favorite... The Good Wife. I was intrigued by the show for a few reasons. I've always liked Juliana Marguiles, but what sold me was Chris Noth (LOVE Mr. Big). So, last week, I set the DVR (because it's on past my bedtime) to record it. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I wasn't even sure that I would like it. But I REALLY, REALLY like it. I was quite impressed and totally love the cast. Josh Charles (an old favorite from Dead Poets), Matt Czuchry (was Logan on Gilmore Girls), Christine Baranski, Mary Beth Peal (Jen's grandmother from Dawson's Creek), etc... If you haven't checked it out, I definitely recommend it. Another new favorite is NCISLA- gotta love LLCool J and Chris O'Donnell :)

Well, I am currently posting from home... all the flooding has canceled school for us. I'm actually glad because I have a ton to get done here at home (including updating the blog).

Pregnancy is going well. I am 23 1/2 weeks and am feeling well (aside from the congestion... either allergies or returning from my infection a about 2 weeks ago). Here's my new favorite picture of Sprout. We had another ultrasound last Thursday.

Anyone out there watching GLEE? I must say that it's definitely one of my new favorite shows. (along with NCIS, which isn't new, but new to us). If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out... music rocks, it's so funny!

It seems like I had a lot more random thoughts before I started the post, but now my brain seems empty. Sprout must have stolen my thoughts :)

Tugaloo

Chris raced in the Tugaloo Triathlon this morning. It was a training day for him (his next big race is in Augusta in two weeks). He did really well and finished in 2 hours 41 minutes (or so.. that's what my watch said anyway). We headed up to Anderson to stay with my step sister last night. We had a great visit with them, even though it was short.

Not much going on here. Our wireless has been out, which is why I haven't posted much lately... Luckily my brother in law ROCKS and let us borrow a wireless thingy ... (like my technical terms?) until he can fix our computer.

I have been fighting some sort of infection all week (of the ear, nose, throat variety) and was home most of the week. It was nice having a week off of school (basically) even though I was sick. Sprout is doing well, in spite of my recent sickness (as I still sniffle and cough).

Sorry I have been MIA lately. Last week, our internet went out. Then the wireless wasn't working (Still isn't so I'm hooked up the old fashioned way). I've had a busy couple of weeks... curriculum night at school, 20 week ultrasound, visit from Chris's parents, doctor appointment, and I've just been plain old tired when I've gotten home.

Aside from all the school stuff going on... Chris's parents were here last weekend to visit for Frank's birthday. We spent the day with them on Saturday. We took them to the Varsity (they had never been before) and then we headed to the World of Coke. VERY COOL! (if you haven't been to the "new" one yet).

Also had the pregnancy stuff going on... 20 week ultrasound was last week. It was so AMAZING to see. Had my normal monthly doctor appointment yesterday, which went well. All in all things are just going well (check out other blog for more, if you're interested).

As promised... here are pictures of the four cakes I baked for Zach's wedding. First, I have to say that when you make a caramel cake...you really never know what it will look like when you finish. Sometimes it will look great! Others.. not so much. This is cake number one.. .which after I iced it, I called my dad in tears because it looked so horrible.

When I started icing cake number two, this happened to the second layer...

Not good... so cake number 2 ended up being a two layer cake... it looks pretty (of course!)

Cake number 3 went a lot better...

Cake number 4 was the "display" cake. It actually looked good sitting out (looked very small compared to the wedding cake, but still looked good). You will notice it is leaning a little bit and please disregard the mess on the counter... icing is messy business!

I did take pictures of the grooms' cakes. I will upload them this weekend and post for you guys to see. :) The wedding went really well. It was a LONG weekend and a tiring one for me, but he looked so happy. I've missed him this week while he's been gone on the honeymoon.

I am definitely looking forward to this weekend where we have nothing on the calendar. I definitely need some rest. School is wearing me out! I finally started seeing my kids yesterday. I missed them. It makes the school day much better when I get to see them.

I'm 19 weeks pregnant today (check out my other blog if you want some little details).

Tired

Well, I was going to use the title "Worn Out" but Melissa beat me to it! Oh well. I'm very tired. School is definitely wearing me out. It's been great to see the kids back this week. It makes me smile when I see some of my old second graders and third graders, who are now the third and fourth graders... they still get excited to see me and have to give me a hug (YAY!). We haven't started seeing any of them yet in their gifted classes. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my schedule fixed and getting back in the groove of things. The first week of school is always tiring but I feel more tired this week than normal. I'm also (on top of school starting) baking 4 cakes for Zach's wedding. Cake #2 is in the oven as I type.

Not much else going on. I will be 18 weeks tomorrow. I haven't felt Sprout yet, but Sprout constantly makes me hungry.

We did have a sad day on Sunday. We had to put our dog Chance to sleep. :( Sammy (our other dog) seems to be okay. He either doesn't notice that Chance is gone or doesn't care. We definitely miss our Chancey.

Last week is a bit of a blur to me. Monday, I spent the day with Chris. He decided to stay home from work to hang out with me before school starts. We ran errands and he changed out a door in the house. I think most of you know we've been slowly working on "updating" and improving our little home. Tuesday, part of the day was spent at school. Sue (my wonderful step mom) helped me in my classroom. In fact, she did more than help... she moved EVERYTHING where I wanted it. She helped me clean and when we left on Tuesday, my trailer was pretty much ready for students! I also had a doc appointment on Tuesday afternoon (see my other blog for details). Then it was back to school on Wednesday. I will admit, Wednesday- Friday were long and rough days for me. My ankles and legs were swollen by the end of each day (from all the sitting in meetings). Friday night I spent the evening (with Sue's wonderful help again.. .Sue is a great sous chef!) making 4 batches of banana cupcakes, which I have to admit were pretty tasty! However, something I ate for dinner (or during the day on Friday) made me super sick. Friday night starting at about midnight until now, I felt HORRIBLE. I have never felt so icky in my whole life. In fact, I hadn't gotten "sick" like that in 23 years (aside from the self-induced/alcohol sickness over the years). On a bright note, I am feeling SO MUCH BETTER today!!! Just finished breakfast (grits)... my first real food since I tried to eat rice for lunch yesterday. YAY! :)

I really have no good excuse for not blogging. I've been around... in fact, I've done nothing the last two weeks. The past few days have been a little busy. I went shopping on Friday (new dress for Zach's wedding and new school clothes... that fit!) Yesterday, I ran a bunch of errands plus had a very yummy lunch with Lonebutterfly.

Not much has been going on in my world. One of our dogs, Chance, is not doing too well. He's having neurological problems and is in a lot of pain. We've had to crate him. (Normally he's just out and about). The vet thought he might have a slipped disc in his neck which is causing him pain and swelling in his spinal cord. She talked to a vet at UGA, who mentioned another condition that is common in Chance's breed. We're trying another medicine now that would treat the other condition. So, we're trying that.

Aside from Chance, I caught Chris's cold and am fighting that.. FUN! I have two extra days of summer (Thanks gov't for furlough days...) I actually can't believe the summer is over for me. Go back on Wednesday to work. I have a few busy weeks ahead. Not only will I be preparing my classroom and all for the start of a new school year, but I have a HUGE order of cupcakes for a one year old's birthday party next weekend. THEN, the next weekend is Zachs' wedding. I can't believe my little brother is getting married. He requested that I make his groom's cake...a caramel cake... the ONLY cake that my brother likes. So, the next week I will be a baking queen and will bake 4 caramel cakes for his wedding. BUSY BUSY BUSY!

Girls' Day

I had a GREAT time at Girls Day and am so thankful that Rebecca planned it for us. I hope that we can at least make it a yearly thing, if not do it more often. It was fantastic to see everyone in person (as opposed to reading blogs). We went to a place called Just for Giggles. You pick a painting and they teach you how to paint it. I love to paint, so it was very enjoyable for me. Let's definitely do it again soon!

What's been going on...

Well, Tuesday was the end of summer school. Summer school has definitely worn me out (that's why I haven't posted much lately). The rest of my week has been busy as well. Wednesday I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. Thursday I went to lunch with my wonderful friend Kristin (who I wish I saw more of) and we went to Babies R Us and started my registry. Thursday night we were given tickets to Legally Blonde at the Fox. I was pleasantly surprised at it. It was cute. Not my favorite, but entertaining. And then yesterday, we spent the morning at the vet with Chance (our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). He has a slipped disc in his neck and is in a lot of pain :( poor puppy. Last night we were able to go to the Braves game with Lonebutterfly and friends to celebrate Lonebutterfly's hubby's birthday. Before the game, the Braves retired Greg Maddux's number. It was a great moment in Braves history. We had a great time. Today I'm looking forward to Girls' day (With many of you) and Lindsay's bachelorette party tonight (I'm just going to do dinner with them). With that being said... I need to hop in the shower. More next week! Oh and check out the new signature... better?

Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon

Chris competed in the Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon on Sunday, July 12. I didn't get as many pictures as I normally do, but we had a good time in Chattanooga. He competed with the Team In Training Team and he did well. I think he did anyway, he's not happy with his finish. It started raining while he was out on the run. I had no idea it was supposed to rain and was not prepared for it. Luckily TNT always has a tent, so I hid there while it rained. I did brave the rain to get a couple of shots of him finishing.

Just a quick update... I am 13 weeks today, which means I am out of my first trimester (FINALLY) and beginning my second. I am feeling pretty good, though really tired after a long day of summer school. I'll write more later, just wanted to give ya'll a update on how things are going :)

Yes, you read correctly! I've had this burning secret for 7 weeks now. I've been itching to post but just HAD to wait until today. Today I am 12 weeks and 1 day pregnant. Chris and I are expecting "Sprout" to arrive in January (14th is my due date). We are SUPER excited!!! Many of you know that we experienced a miscarriage around Thanksgiving so this is definitely a HUGE blessing. We have seen "Sprout" twice on ultrasounds. In the last one, Sprout was kicking and waving at us. It was such an amazing experience to see the Sprout. We have not decided if we're going to find out the gender. We have until August 27 to decide, which will be the next time we are going to see Sprout.

As for me, I have good days and bad days. I have not been sick but have certainly felt like I was going to be sick. I'm exhausted all the time and am looking forward to the next trimester. I'm hoping that the good feelings of the second trimester come sooner rather than later!

Life is kinda boring these days. Not much going on. The dreaded summer school begins on Monday (for only 15 days). I'm hoping it won't be too bad. I do have to say that we have one 5 day week, two 4 day weeks and then end with a 2 day week. That can't be too bad, can it? Speaking of summer school, I have NO idea what to expect. I guess I've been teaching long enough that I'm okay to just "wing it." I am NOT looking forward to recess, seeing how hot it has been and will continue to be.

This morning Chris is doing Muddy Buddy with friend, Paul. He did this two years ago and had a blast. It was fun to watch but I decided to skip out this time. I feel like a bad wife at the moment, but I do have a really good reason for missing. I'm sure you're wondering what would keep me from supporting my hubby in participating in yet another race... it's my health. I haven't been feeling good for a few days. Stuffy nose, headache, etc... and the thought of standing in the humidity (even though it's only about 80 degrees right now) just wasn't sounding fun to me. In fact, I'd probably be pretty miserable.

That's really about all. The past week, I had lunch plans just about everyday. I enjoyed seeing friends and spending lunchtime with them. Plus, it got me out of the house. Otherwise, I probably would've just been sitting on the couch, all day everyday.

One thing that Chris and I have been doing each night is watching NCIS. My dear friend, Lonebutterfly, is a HUGE fan and insisted that we start watching. She kindly loaned us all of her dvds, since we must watch from the beginning. We are currently in Season 4 (out of 6). We are hoping to catch up by the time Sesaon 7 begins. BUT we LOVE Abby, Duckie, Gibbs, McGee, Ziva and of course, DiNozzo!

The other thing I have been doing is rereading the Harry Potter books. I've read them all many times, but as the movies have come out I haven't read the first books in a LONG time. I'm currently reading the 3rd book (Prisoner from Azkaban). I'm hoping to finish at least the 6th one, in time for the movie release next month. We shall see! It's a battle each night between Harry and the gang of NCIS.

So last night I made up the batter and then unwrapped a bunch of these...

BRAG day 3

And final day (for Chris). Today Chris and Andy left Cornelia headed to my favorite city ever... Athens!!! Chris had a good ride and finished before he thought he would. In the meantime, Karen and I headed to Athens. We visited the bookstore and drove around Athens a bit before Sue and Chris arrived. Both arrived at the same time. Sue, Chris and I went to find lunch before Sue brought me home. We headed over to Zims and was so sad to discover... IT'S CLOSED!!! No more sorority or fraternity melts (which sounded so yummy). In wanting to keep in the Athensy theme... we headed downtown to The Grill. We walked around town just a little bit before Sue and I headed back home. Chris is staying tonight to enjoy downtown Athens tonight :) I had to come home because I have preplanning for summer school in the morning. Boo...

All in all... a good trip!

BRAG day 2

Today was day 2 of BRAG. We left Dawsonville this morning and headed to Cornelia. I got up this morning and took Chris and Andy back to Dahlonega (took about 20 minutes one way) so they could start their journey. They left Dahlonega headed for Mt. Airy (Habersham Central High School). After I got back, I took my time getting ready and packing up. Once we were packed, we headed to Cornelia to meet up with the boys. I am hoping to meet up with Kimberly today. I'm a little tired and am pondering a nap before I call her.

BRAG day 1

Today is the first day of BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia). We came to Hiawassee last night so that Chris and Andy wouldn't have to get up as early to start. Last night, we drove through Helen to get here and they had these fabulous hot air balloons. (we did get some pictures but I forgot my cord to upload pictures... So pictures to follow later). Today Chris and Andy are cycling from Hiawassee to Dahlonega.

In the meantime, I was able to sleep in, play on the computer and enjoy my morning. I'm not sure what the day entails for Karen and me, but we shall see. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures. I have to admit that I am looking forward to a Hardee's breakfast... YUM! More to come...

My summer is off to a good start. Not a whole lot going on. I went shopping a few days last week and that's about all the excitement that I've had.

I am currently procrastinating going to the grocery store. I've been watching TLC all morning (Baby Story, Jon and Kate, Say Yes to the Dress and What Not to Wear) doesn't get much better than this! Anyway, just wanted to say HI and let ya'll know that I'm still around. Chris is going to be doing the Bike Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) starting Sunday morning. So maybe I'll have some fun stories to tell (I'm driving along with a friend).

Turtley Crawl 2009

Here are the pictures from the Turtle Crawl on Jekyll Island. Chris had an awesome race with a personal best time (2:19)... which prior to this race his best time was 2:51 (or 2:49...). We headed down to St. Simons on Friday and stayed with my aunt and uncle. They were wonderful hosts and we had a great visit with them. My uncle has an 8 month old English Bulldog, whose name is Baxter (after Baxter street in Athens). Baxter is AWESOME! He's so super cute and just a great dog. You have to check out his trick...

School's Out For Summer!

Wednesday was the last day of school with kiddos. WOO HOO!!! Yesterday was spent moving all of my materials into the center of my classroom for cleaning over the summer. And today... well, let's just say that I am hanging out. I have to be here today AND next Tuesday (thanks to the lovely snow we had in March). Sigh...

I know I still need to post about the triathlon last weekend. I will hopefully do that this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I just haven't had time to upload my photos to the computer.

Not much going on in my world. Counting down to the last day of school (5 with kids, 8 total work days). It's not so much that I don't want to be at school teaching... it's the fact that the kids are SO excited that they don't listen anymore... they're running around and acting like hooligans. Making our jobs difficult and tiring.

Don't have a tv commentary for you guys yet. (I know you love them). I'll have one again in about a week or so. We're behind on 24 and Desperate Housewives. I have watched Brothers and Sisters... but that's it for this week (so far). Oh and quite a few episodes from Season 1 of NCIS. Still loving it! (thanks Lonebutterfly!)

I'm looking forward to the upcoming weekend. We're heading to St. Simons for the weekend. Chris is doing the Turtle Crawl Triathlon on Jekyll on Saturday. We are going to be staying with my Aunt at her house on St. Simons. ... SO EXCITED!!!

Greys- (WARNING... If you didn't watch it yet, don't read this part) killed me last night. It was so sweet and yet so sad. First, the college graduates in the car crash and the girl's speech. I LOVE Alex. I love that he asked her to tell him her speech and then he used the same idea in his vows. I LOVE that Alex and Izzie were married. She looked so beautiful. and I LOVE that George walked her down the aisle. and the end... loved the end, but the end is what killed me. Seeing her there with her scarf on her head with her beautiful face totally reminded me of my mom and my mom's scarves and beautiful face.
Private Practice- the season finale was FANTASTIC! I cannot WAIT for the fall. first of all, LOVED that Violet picked Pete. YAY PETE! okay, but the end was killing me with Cooper so close to saving her... and then he left! Someone HAS to save her right? I think it's going to be Sheldon that saves her (just to throw a wrench into her plans with Pete). And totally felt bad for Addison. She really likes Noah but am so proud that she wouldn't give in. FINALLY Sam told Naomi that he still loves her. I still think there is hope for them yet!
Scrubs- still have to watch the season finale. It's making me sad though that there won't be a JD... :(
90210- YES, I do watch this one and TOTALLY Forgot to commentate on it last time. So, I think Ethan is into Silver (well, these aren't just my thoughts... they're from Rebecca too). Liam is totally into Annie and it's definitely going to mess up her relationship with Naomi. Naomi's sister Jen is going to blow through Naomi's money. AND, Ryan Matthews and Jen are going to start the new Melrose (anyone notice his apartment complex.. oh yeah... it was Melrose Place).
NCIS- still in the middle of season 1, but am totally digging the characters. The story lines are intriguing and I LOVE the banter between Kate and Dinoso (however you spell his name). And of course, everyone has to love Gibbs (Jethro... love it!) and Abbey! :)
BONES- all I can say is ... they are SO GOING TO DO IT! :) And I can't wait! I'm looking forward to next week's season finale.

And there you have it folks.. hopefully more entertaining commentary on the (too) many shows that I watch... which I sadly left out a few more that I watch... But I won't bore you with those. :)

I completed my first ever 5K in 46:38 minutes! I did the Big Peach 5K in Brookhaven on Saturday morning with Chris, Zach and Lindsay. Of course they all finished before me, but I loved that my brother was standing at the finish line waiting for me to cross. I started out the race running. Then I decided I would run the down hills and the flat parts. So, I did. At mile one, my time was 14:29. Mile 2 was better (more downhills) 29:09 and then of course, mile 3 was almost all uphill. I am actually looking into doing another one on 5/23. Anyone want to join me?

This weekend was super busy for the Hartleys. Friday night, we went to dinner with the family to celebrate Jared (step-brother in law)'s birthday. Saturday was the 5K and then Braves at 3:40...which of course, there was a rain delay so we were there until after 7. We left there and decided to get off Marta in Midtown to go to the Vortex (mmmmmmmmm.......) So, we didn't get home until late. Sunday, we headed back to the Braves game. I will post pictures later. Unfortunately the Bravos lost both games... but it's always so fun to go. I still love them anyway!

That's how many days are left of school (with kids). technically I have 18 days (have to make up the ONE snow day, plus our normal 2 post planning days). Not too shabby, I say.

It's also the number of days of Summer School. Why? You ask am I talking about summer school? Well, in sticking with our Dave Ramsay plan, I thought working at Summer School would help make our "debt snowball" go a little bit faster. I also thought, it would give me something to do besides sit on my bum all summer (since we don't have a pool... not really going anywhere this summer, etc...) I have mixed feelings about the adventure upon me. I DO LOVE my lazy summer days. However, I know it will help me stay busy and will help me keep my mind off of other things. AND it's only 15 days!!! Can't be too bad, right? I found out today that I will be teaching 5th (which you know is my specialty... or maybe you don't know, but anyway, it is!) and I'm going to concentrate on Math! PERFECT! (which you know is my strong subject... or maybe you don't know... which you do now!)

Random thoughts about some of my favorite TV shows (yes, ya'll know I'm a junkie). First of all- Brothers and Sisters- Can I just say I am SO DISAPPOINTED in Kitty? I can't believe she kissed the park guy!!! Especially when she has HOT Rob Lowe at home waiting for her with their son! BOO for Kitty! Oh and Ryan.. don't like him... he's creepy! I agree with Justin, he's definitely got his own agenda.
24- HATE IT that Tony is a bad guy! It's killing me! Just like I know it's killing Jack... and I can't believe he's got this sickness where he's going to die. They HAVE TO DO SOMETHING PEOPLE!!! JACK BAUER CANNOT DIE!!!
Greys- I just have to say that I LOVE Lexie. She totally cracks me up and last week when she couldn't stop eating... totally had me laughing. I do think Izzie is going to die. which I hate for Alex (who I really, really like). I do think Cristina and Owen will eventually find their way back together. hmmm... oh and did I mention McSteamy is just hot??? mmmm
Private Practice- LOVE IT! I can't decide who I think the father is of Violet's baby. I hope it's Pete. I like Pete. Did you know the lady he was dating (the one with the son that has asthma) is Taye Digg's wife? hee hee... I also have TOTAL mixed feelings about Addison hooking up with Noah. I DON'T like that he's married and that we like his wife. But I DO like him.
Scrubs- SO sad that it's in it's last season. Whatever will I do without JD?
Just started NCIS (thanks to Lonebutterfly who loaned me season 1) and am totally digging it.
Tudors- You know I LOVE the Tudors. However, since I DON'T have Showtime, it makes it difficult to see it. I have seen the first episode (WHAT IS UP WITH HIS LEG? EWW!) and am awaiting the summer holiday when I can go to my friend Dana's house to watch all the episodes and catch up!
and finally... my favorite... BONES I read in TV guide (or somewhere) that we're going to be learning more and more about Booth (LOVE HIM!) AND I read that the two are FINALLY going to hook up! I am addicted to BONES! I watch just about every night on TNT at 6 (even though I think I've now seen all the episodes).

and now, an update on my running. This week, I am walking 4 minutes and running 1.5 minutes. I did this workout on Monday. My only complaint was I didn't time it too well and ended up running up a bunch of hills (YUCKO) which made my shins feel like they were on fire! Yesterday I walked about 4 miles with a friend. We just walked. I'm taking a break today (hence the totally random and LONG ... sorry... blog). I'm going to be working out again tomorrow and then will encorporate my workout into the Big Peach 5K on Saturday morning! woo hoo!

I recently made the decision to start running. With the help of my brother, I found a plan to go from walking to running in weeks (12, I think?). Anyway, this past week was my first week on the plan. Three times a week, I walked for 4 minutes then ran for 1 minute. I repeated the process 5 times to make a 25 minute workout. I did my workout on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. (Wednesday was our anniversary, so we had other plans). Today, I decided to do the same workout but added a 6th time. Chris calculated my distance today, which was (drumroll please)... 2.6 miles! YAY ME!

On another note, for those of you Kate Gosselin fans out there.. she's supposed to be at the Family bookstore? at the Mall of Ga tonight! I'm sad to miss it (we are out of town, visiting Chris's family). But I do have to say.. If you haven't read Multiple Blessings, I HIGHLY recommend it. I am about 2 chapters from completing it. It is very well written and a blessing to read about their experiences of becoming parents of 8 kids.

Our weekend was full of baseball! Actually for the past week or so. We ended up going to the "big Braves" game again on Wednesday (they lost...boo) but our seats were incredible. Of course, I forgot my camera. If I had known what good seats we had, I TOTALLY would've grabbed it.

Thursday night I had Bunco with the ITP teachers from my school. We had a GREAT time as always.

Friday and Saturday night, we headed out to Buford to the Gwinnett Braves Home Opener Games against the Norfolk Tide (part of the Orioles). Both games we lost, but we had a great time. Saturday night, Lonebutterfly and her family joined us. We tailgated before the game.

Friday night, April 10, 2009 the Braves returned home for their Home Opener against the Washington Nationals. Festivities began with a tribute to long time broadcaster Pete Van Wieren, who retired at the end of last season. The National Anthem was sung by country singer Jason Aldean and was made complete by a fly by. Sigh... Baseball is back! :)

Ever since Chris and I started dating we have attended numerous games each season, including either an exhibition game or the Home Opener (or one close behind it). WE LOVE THE BRAVES!

I met Rebecca for lunch (an annual occurrence- well, we usually meet every break I have). It was very fun and I was very surprised when she brought me some of her chocolate covered pretzels (YAY!)

You know you're getting old when you schedule various doctor's appointments over Spring Break. Today consisted of going to one of said doctor's appointments. I followed my appointment with lunch. I picked Zach up at his work and we went to Thumbs Up Diner. Quite delish!

When I got home, I decided to bake some cookies and make dinner for my friend that just had a baby. I was able to visit with her for a few hours before heading home. Once I got home, my friend Lonebutterfly called and asked me to meet her and baby GO for pizza! What a wonderful start to Spring Break!

So, I just got home from seeing Kate... yes, Kate Gosselin (otherwise known as Kate from Jon and Kate + Ei8ht). A friend emailed me a few months ago with information about Kate coming to speak at Roswell United Methodist Church, so we quickly bought tickets and have anxiously been awaiting tonight.

She spoke for a little over an hour. She started her story with meeting Jon, getting married and having the kids. She spoke of their journey in learning they were having septuplets (yes, they were originally having 7!) to the actual births of the six. She spoke of her faith and especially of how much God is in control.

She's an amazing woman with an incredible faith in God. I'm SO GLAD I went to hear her speak. It was definitely encouraging to hear her speak.

Busy Weekend!

For the past two weekends, we've started the weekend with not much to do and somehow our weekends turn out to be quite the busy affairs! It started Friday afternoon going to happy hour with some teachers afterschool (and staying until 7! crazy, but fun!).

Saturday morning, Sue and I headed to the mall. It was an enjoyable time (as always). As soon as I got home, Chris and I headed out to run some errands. We got home in time to play a little Wii before heading out again. We took stuff to make tacos over to Lonebutterfly's house. It was quite delish and very fun to hang out with them again. After dinner, Chris and Lonebutterfly's hubby played the Wii and entertained us all. (There's pics of us on LB's page) For those of you that have a Wii, I definitely recommend the Lego games (Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman)... They are super fun and very entertaining! The little legomen explode into the lego pieces when they get "killed"... VERY FUNNY!

Sunday was our usual...church, chores and cleaning, followed by dinner at my dad and Sue's house. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Secret Life

Does anyone out there watch "Secret Life of the American Teenager?" If you have NO Idea what I am talking about, Secret Life comes on ABC Family. It's about a 15 year old girl that is pregnant. It's done by the creators of "7th Heaven." And I absolutely love it. I always have to DVR it because HOUSE comes on at the same time. Chris and I watch HOUSE together and he has no desire to watch Secret Life. So, I DVR it and watch it another time.

It's kinda funny because it's this good family show, but it's about a teenager mom to be. There are a lot of good messages in it though, including the message to wait until you're married before having sex.

Anyway, I was just curious if I was alone in my love for this show???

With such a beautiful day on Saturday, Chris and I decided to call friend Lonebutterfly to see if she and her family wanted to join us at Stone Mountain for a picnic. They did and we quickly came up with a game plan.

Chris grilled steaks (and hot dogs for the caterpillars). We ate, hung out and had a fabulous time! I'm looking forward to our next picnic!

It snowed!!! I totally didn't think it would snow, even though the weathermen have been calling for it. We went to church and I looked out and it was snowing! The pictures were taken right after we got home, but we actually ended up with even more snow. I am quite enjoying my day off from school. I know I'll hate making it up down the road, but it was a much needed day today.

Chris and I recently bought a 4 in 1 printer, which of course includes a scanner. I've had some fun scanning old photos. I'm a little discouraged at the moment. I scanned this photo of my mom and me to put on my Relay For Life page and I can't make it small enough to put on the actual page.

So, when I was little my mom always listed to Fox97, which back in the day was oldies. And of course, was the music she listened to in high school and college. And, as I got older (and it seemed so "not cool") I always thought to myself that I'm going to listen to cool stuff when I'm a mom. Even though I'm not a mom... I've been reflecting on my radio stations. I love my XM and the fact that I can listen to the 90s, which is what I listened to in high school and college! I guess I will be a dorky mom! Of course, I enjoy all music... oldies, country, 90s, current stuff, alternative, etc...

Have those days where you get just completely down on yourself? I'm having one of those days. Mainly for reasons that I'd rather not post but also I'm really down on my weight. I am "stuck" and I'm not sure what will help. I'm sure exercise will help, it's just finding the time and the motivation to actually work out. Anyone else have days like this?

I don't have a lot going on right now, except that I was SUPER busy last week??? Nothing too exciting. On Tuesday, the afterschool program began (which I am teaching in it). We also had International Night at school, which lasted until 8:30. Tuesday was a super long day. Wednesday after school, I went to a seminar(?) for lack of better term. Thursday was afterschool again. And yesterday I went to visit a friend that just had a baby girl. Nothing too exciting... Well, visiting Lonebutterfly was exciting!

I do have another cake order (thanks to Shaye and Rachel for putting in orders for February). I have a cake order for tomorrow, so I'll definitely be baking later today.

Today's to dos (in case you were wondering), aside from the regular laundry and cleaning... hook up the new 4 in 1 printer/scanner (so excited... watch out for old pics!), make a back up copy of my photos that are online, take some pics for the natural light project, download some cds to itunes, bake, bake and bake AND hopefully do some "Spring Cleaning" and get rid of some junk!

After posting pictures of some of the gifts I made for Christmas, I had a few people ask how much I would charge for some of them. So, I combined that with my cake making business (which I'm expanding to cupcakes and cookies) and VIOLA! I have another blog. :) It's a work in progress right now... but stay tuned... I plan to post pictures of my sweet treats, as I make them. (and as I figure out the best layout for the blog, that is...).

That I HATE ... absolutely LOATHE being cold? As I sit here, it's 29 outside and it's 50 something in here. Our heat is not working. BOO... I have my little space heater sitting with me and I just made some hot tea. I have a blanket, a wool sweater and sweat pants on... and I'm cold. My nose and fingers are cold. :P

For Christmas, the one thing that I really kinda wanted that was on my list, I did not get. I was hoping for a Wii and a Wii fit. Chris told me yesterday that he would buy me one if I sold 10 cakes. I can also sell cupcakes, but haven't figured out the pricing on those yet. So, anyone need/want a cake? I do pride myself on being a good baker. I love to bake. My specialty is my grandmother's Caramel Cake. I can do anything, but that's my specialty. One of the assistant principals at my school would say that my specialty is Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing. (which is my personal fave too) I branched out this Christmas and made Carrot Cake cupcakes. I also can make a mean Red Velvet Cake. :) Any takers?

While I'm talking about selling stuff... my cousin asked me how much for the notecards that I made some of my friends... If you're interested, let me know! I'd be happy to sell those too!

On another random topic... tonight is Thursday... and Thursdays just got even better. First, there was Greys. (which... I have to admit... LOVE ERIC DANE! for those of you that watch he's aka McSteamy (Mark Sloane)). Then.. they moved Private Practice to Thursdays (after Greys), which I also enjoy. And tonight... TONIGHT... Bones is moving to Thursdays. And I LOVE Bones! (also have to admit... LOVE DAVID BOREANAZ!). With that said, Bones is on now (TNT).

So, first of all... I HATE cold weather, absolutely loathe it! It makes me want to stay home (in my warm house) and not go anywhere... EVER! And of course, this is the week that the Natural Light group is supposed to take outside shots... hmmm. Okay, with that off of my chest...

Thanks for all the compliments on the hair. I'm enjoying it, though it's a little shorter than I wanted. My stipulation is always that I have to be able to pull it back into a ponytail, which I cannot. I also haven't attempted to wear it "straight" like it is in the picture, so I've been doing the wavy thing.

And, I had all these random thoughts in my head the other day and I didn't have time to blog, so I thought I would save them for today and now I can't remember them. Ever do that? Blog in your head on your way home from work? Or am I just a weirdo?

Chris is working on our guest bathroom, so HOPEFULLY I will have pictures soon! I'm super excited about it.

You know you're getting old when you're home before midnight on New Year's Eve AND are content being home before midnight! :) Last night, we met friends out for a Japanese steakhouse dinner. Quite delish!

As 2008 came to a close and 2009 begins today, I've been pondering New Years Resolutions. I don't want to make a resolution that I know I will break but here are a few things that I would like to accomplish in 2009.
~Develop healthier habits, including exercising on a regular basis.
~Crochet more and make more gifts.
~Practice Rosetta Stone more so that I can one day speak Spanish fluently, or semi fluently.
~Work on uncluttering house and try harder to put away things instead of laying them wherever.
~Get out of debt!
~Learn more about using the manual parts of my camera and not rely so much on the automatic features.
~Send more birthday cards via mail instead of e-cards (so send me your addresses folks!)
~Try to focus more on positives, rather than negatives. I don't think of myself as a negative person, but I'd still like to work on this and limiting my complaining.

I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas, as Chris and I did. We headed to his hometown on Tuesday evening, to spend Christmas with his family. His family does a big dinner on Christmas Eve, so we had very yummy food and good company. Christmas morning, we exchanged presents with his family, ate lunch and headed back to Atlanta to celebrate Christmas with my family. A good time was had by all and we are so blessed to have such a loving and giving family. Below are a few pictures from our Christmas. And looking forward to sharing all that I have done this weekend. I have spent the past two days working on Christmas gifts for my family and friends. I have done ALL sorts of things and yes, I have taken photos of all of my projects... however... they ARE Christmas gifts and I wouldn't want to ruin any surprises. So, YOU too, will have to wait for Christmas.

So, my "illness" (which if you want more details on it, email me) over the Thanksgiving weekend really put me behind this year. I FINALLY finished my Christmas cards. Do you think the cards will arrive before Christmas? If not, I guess it's the thought that counts, right?

On an exciting note, I FINALLY got my rings soldered together. They were also cleaned and dipped (white gold needs it every now and again). They look soooo good! :)

Did I mention that I'm looking forward to sleeping in, in the morning?
